- W2222954804 abstract "This paper presents an overview of the major quantitative traits of alfalfa cultivars and hybrid cultivars developed at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad using local populations of so-called Pannonian-type alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and populations of yellow alfalfa (Medicago falcata L.), respectively. The cultivars NS-Banat ZMS II, NS -Vrsac ZMS IV, NS-Mediana ZMS V, Tisa and Begej are characterized by tall stems and quick regrowth in early spring or after cutting, so they are more tolerant to frequent cutting and intensive utilization.(Tab.2.). The cultivars NS-Slavija and NS-Vrsac ZMS IV have a larger number of shorter internodes. Due to this characteristic combined with their shorter and thicker internodes at the base of the stem and slower regrowth in the spring or after cutting, these cultivars are more tolerant of lodging and are suitable for intensive growing conditions and irrigation (Tab.2.). A high percentage contribution of the leaves (over 50%) is characteristic of the cultivars Tisa, Novosađanka H-11, Mediana ZMS V and NS-Banat ZMS II, while NS-Slavija , Novosađanka H-11, Mediana ZMS V , NS-Banat ZMS II and NS-Bac kaZMS I have high yields of green forage or hay. The crude protein content of Novi Sad alfalfa cultivars was 19.05. A high crude protein content can be found in the cultivars: NS-Slavija, Rasinka NS-Backa ZMS I and NS-Vrsac ZMS IV. The contribution of crude cellulose was 24,39. The cultivar NS-Slavija has a particularly low crude cellulose percentage contribution (22,65%) The contribution of nitrogen-free extractive substances was 42,06%. Noteworthy in this regard are the cultivars Tisa (43,98%), Begej (44,74%), NS-Backa ZMS I (41,22%) and NS Banat ZMS II (41,62%). The dry matter energy value expressed via net lactation energy was 4,61 MJ/kg dry matter, while net energy value for growth and meat production was 4,38 MJ/kg dry matter. The differences in net energy value among the cultivars are not significant." @default.
