- W2225494886 abstract "Dose reduction of antipsychotics to specific equivalents is done in relation to the arbitrary representative of the group (chlorpromazine or haloperidol). The defined daily dose (DDD) is a statistical unit of internationally agreed and determined drug quantity, most commonly administered for specific indication. DDD enables measurement of drug usage and exposition of given population. Objective of this paper is to analyse the possibility of using DDD for measuring efficacy of antipsychotics. To this end, the statistical analysis was made of the correlation between the prescribed doses of specific antipsychotics for maintenance therapy transformed into DDD, and their equivalents haloperidol and chlorpromazine. Method ? Prescriptions of a total of 263 patients were analysed (141 women and 122 men, mean age 27.38 ± 6.2 SD, mean duration of illness 2.03 years ± 2.40 SD) with diagnoses of schizophrenia (F20), acute polymorphic psychotic disorder with symptoms of schizophrenia (F23.1) and acute schizophrenia-like psychotic disorder (F23.2) according to the ICD-10 criteria. SPSS correlation model and correlation coefficient were used to determine statistical significance. Results ? analysis of equivalent correlation of chlorpromazine, haloperidol and the number of DDD indicated a statistically significant correlation between all three methods of comparison of antipsychotics doses (a total of 9 antipsychotics). Conclusion ? The results indicate that there is a correlation between DDD and the classical comparison systems of antipsychotics potency. This facilitates the acceptance of the concept of DDD and imposes the need for further research of its use in evaluation of therapeutic efficacy of antipsychotics." @default.
