- W2227139512 abstract "The concrete around a steel reinforcement provides double protection against corrosion. First, it acts as a physical barrier which limits the penetration of aggressive agents and the access of oxygen to the armature. Then, with the composition of the pore solution and high pH, concrete provides protection against chemical corrosion. The degradation of the concrete can be caused by corrosion of reinforcement (presence of aggressive ions, moisture, oxygen, carbonation ...), quality of materials used, the poor design of structures and inadequate maintenance. The objective of this study was to evaluate the resistance to corrosion of reinforcement in concrete, currently used in the field and whose mode of action is not understood. Two types of alloys are analyzed: a stainless steel (UR45) and the carbon steel (C38). We are interested in studying the behavior of the two steels in cement filtrate medium with and without addition of chlorides or coated with concrete in seawater. The results show that the corrosion of reinforcement steel in concrete begins during the first days of exposure to continuous immersion. Monitoring of potential shows that the potential is evolving towards more negative values during the immersion time. The stainless steel is more resistant than carbon steel. For stainless steel, the presence of chloride makes the environment less aggressive. Data obtained from the electrochemistry study and surface analyzes show that the stainless steel can be considered, for some applications, as a solution, especially when there are maintenance difficulties. ___________________________________________________________________________________" @default.
