- W2227257580 abstract "Algebra is one of the most important but also most difficult areas of Mathematics in terms of learning and teaching. Its power lies in the fact that it allows the handling and representation of mathematical ideas with precision and clarity and the development of effective problem-solving processes, mathematical and others, mainly through modelling. A preparation stage is important before students are introduced to algebra, during which the appropriate mental patterns for the subsequent systematic study of algebraic concepts and processes will be formed. This stage can start from the very first years of elementary school. Recent research examines the development of algebraic thinking as a continuum, starting from the first years of elementary education with the exploration of simple patterns in realistic ''approach frameworks''. Linking Algebra to the structures of patterns contributes to the development of algebraic skills (e.g. generalisation, abstraction), and also to developing algebraic expression. This study aims to evaluate the ability of students to generalise geometric patterns and formulate rules defining cardinality. The analysis of the discete models (methods)developed by the students showed that patterns can foster different ways of expressing generality, with graded difficulty." @default.
