- W2228303584 abstract "Affinity ligands can be classified on the basis of their sizes. Small-molecularweight ligands (e. g., coenzymes, substrate analogs, dyes, chelated metal ions, etc.) are used more frequently [1, 2]. Lectins [3, 4], Protein A/G [5, 6], protease inhibitors [7] and antibodies [7] are all protein in nature and hence have relatively bigger sizes. The latter are also more fragile vis-à-vis high temperature, extreme pH and presence of chemical denaturants. In general (possibly with the exception of substrate analogs), these are more specific in nature and their use yields target proteins/enzymes of higher purity. Hence, these have proved quite useful in a large number of cases and appropriate protocols are available which take care of their sensitivity to harsh conditions." @default.
