- W2232987366 abstract "Changes in proteolytic activity in the gut, hepatopancreas and muscle of the plankton feeder sliver carp, Hypoptuhalmichthys molilrix, and the camivore magur. Claries batrachus, were studied. Both silver carp and magur exhibited seasonal variation in the proteolytic activity. Highest activity was observed in gut section II in silver carp whereas it was in gut section I in magur. In silver carp, 4 peaks were observed, during December, February, April and June, whereas 2 peaks were seen in magur, during December and March. Enzyme activity of hepatopancrea s was higher in magur than silver carp. No significant variation was observed in the protease activity of muscle in both the species. The exotic fishes, silver carp (Hypophlhalmichthys molitrix) and the magur (Clarias batrachus), are important species of fishes cultured in India. Silver carp is one of the fastest growing species used in the composite fish culture. Even though nutritional requirements of freshwater fishes have received considerable attention, studios on the digestive enzymes involved in nutrition of food are scanty. Although the activities of digestive enzymes in trout, salmon and common carp have been documented (Ghosh 1976, Dabrowski 1979, Bitterl^ 1985), literature on these enzymes in silver carp and magur is meagre. The present paper describes the protease activity of silver carp and magur in gut, hepatopancreas and muscle during different seasons." @default.
