- W2233022980 abstract "This chapter presents a discussion on cell-cycle analysis. In cell biology, one of the most exciting and intriguing questions is the process of cell growth and reproduction to yield two cells of similar nature. A better understanding of the mechanisms involved in cell reproduction depends upon having markers spaced around the cell cycle, which allow the determination of the cell progress toward the next cell division. In this chapter, some standard techniques for cell-cycle analysis and some of the criticisms that have been leveled against certain of them have been discussed. The biological significance of the distribution of phase durations has been discussed. Measurement of the degree of variability of phase durations has given evidence that compensatory mechanisms may be operating in the various phases of the cell cycle. Because the understanding of distributions of phase durations and generation times are important biologically and analytically, some of the characteristics of the normal, lognormal, and reciprocal normal distributions have been reviewed." @default.
