- W2236939150 abstract "Solar energy use is categorized into two applications, solar thermal system and photovoltaic system. Solar thermal applications in buildings are domestic hot water (DHW) heating, space heating and cooling. Solar DHW heating with solar water heaters is the most widely used application of solar thermal systems. In Japan, 500millions of solar hot water heaters have been used since 1960s. Solar space heating as well as solar cooling systems had been developed very active for twenty years from the middle of 1970s after the oil crisis. From the beginning of 1990s, solar power generation system using photovoltaic array has been used widely as a solar energy application. Recently, many people may consider that the solar house is the house provided with photovoltaic array instead of solar collectors for solar thermal applications. Extending the solar thermal systems has been strongly expected together with the photovoltaic generation system in Japan. The energy supplied by the solar thermal system is estimated to be 0.98million Kl in 1999. The solar thermal contribution to the energy supply is expected to be 4.39million Kl in 2010. In other words extending four times of the energy supply in 1999 for solar thermal application is expected. For the photovoltaic system the energy supplied in 1999 and expecting supply in 2010 are 0.053million kl and 1.18million Kl, respectively. It is expected to be widely used and extending solar thermal systems. As the ways of solar energy use, solar thermal system and photovoltaic. system have different characteristics. The solar thermal systems are tightly coupled with heat loads of the buildings, such as DHW heating and space heating and cooling. On the other hand, the photovoltaic system with power grid connection is considered as connected to battery with infinite capacity of storing power. In this paper, extending the solar thermal system is considered in connection with the view point of the heat loads of the buildings based of the Japanese situation." @default.
