- W2238483929 abstract "A concern with environmental crime inevitably leads the analytical gaze toacknowledge the fusion of the local and the global, and to ponder the ways inwhich such harms transcend the normal boundaries of jurisdiction, geography andsocial divide. This observation is important because so much environmental harmis intrinsically transnational. Contemporary discussions of environmental crime, for example, deal with issues such as the illegal transport and dumping of toxicwaste, the illegal traffic in radioactive or nuclear substances, the proliferation of'e'-waste generated by the disposal of tens-of-thousands of computers and otherelectronic equipment, trans-border pollution that is systematic (via location offactories) or accidental (for example, chemical plant spills), the illegal trade inplants and non-human animals, and illegal fishing, hunting and logging. Thislist goes on, but the point is that environmental harm, whether conceptualised inconventional legal terms or based upon more encompassing ecologically-basedconceptions of harm, is by nature mobile and easily subject to transference." @default.
