- W2238842077 abstract "A classical chloroform fumigation-extraction method (CFEM) wascarried out to obtain 0.5M K2SO4 extracts of fumigated (F) andnon-fumigated (NF) samples of 36 grassland and 12 forest soilsfrom Czech Republic. Main physical and chemical properties ofsoils were also determined and basal respiration (BR) of soilswas measured. Organic C in extracts was determined bydichromate digestion. Anthrone-, orcinol-, and phenol-reactiveC (ARC, ORC, and PRC, respectively), ninhydrin-reactive N(NRN), Folin-Ciocalteu's reagent-reactive compounds (FRC), anddiphenylamine-reactive compounds (DRC) were assessed inextracts using colorimetric analytical methods. The methodsused were found to be quick, simple and cheap. By this waybiochemical specification of soil organic matter and microbialbiomass was gained. Results of measurements were proposed tomake several types of indices. The index expressions ofmeasured parameters were found to be the most suitable for (a)evaluation and investigation of relationships between microbialbiomass and soil organic matter, and for (b) soil organicmatter composition studies. Three main types of indices wereproposed: index I. as extracellular amount of each compound tomicrobial biomass, index II., immobilization ratio, asproportion of each compound between soil extracellular organicmatter and microbial biomass, and index III., substrate qualityindex, as extracellular amount of each compound to extractableextracellular carbon (EX-C). The possibility of characterizingsoil organic matter and microbial biomass C and N compounds byadopting suitable colorimetric methods is another practicaladvantage of CFEM and could show a possible course ofimprovement in soil microbial ecotoxicology." @default.
