- W2239614622 abstract "The radiation sensitivity of some of the characteristics of Au- Si detectors toward fast and thermal neutrons and fission fragments was investigated, in order to study the lnttice defects generated in these detectors by scattering or by nuclear reactions. The experiments were carried out with n- type Si surface-barrier detectors having a resistance between 150 and 200 ohm cm. The pulse-amplitude spectra of the alpha particles of /sup 241/Am and of the thermal-neutroninduced fission fragments of /sup 235/U, the time of resolution of the detectors, the average lifetime of the charge carriers, or the recombination time of the electron-hole pair, and the n-p transition capacity of the detectors were determined before and after the irradiation. The 15-Mev neutrons were obtained by means of a T(d,n)/sup 4/He low-voltage neutron generator. The results indicated that an increase of the neutron dose results in the decrease of the lifetime of the charge carriers while increasing the resistance of the Si. Tests with 3-mev neutrons, obtained by the D(d,n)He/sup 3/ reaction showed that the detectors are more stable against thermal than against fast neutrons. After exposure to the fission fragment flux, no substantial changes were observed in the time constant. (TTT)" @default.
