- W2245893174 abstract "In the last two decades a number of reports of carcinogenesis within enterocystoplasties and conduit urinary diversions have appeared in the literature. Although the numbers are small, characteristics of these tumors are reminiscent of those previously identified in ureterosigmoidostomy patients with anastomotic malignancies. While clinical and experimental data support a role for chemical carcinogens as mediators of tumor formation associated with ureterosigmoidostomy, exposure to a combination of both urinary and fecal streams has traditionally been considered a requirement for the initiation of malignant change. The observation that tumors can occur at or near uroenteric anastomoses in the absence of feces is disturbing and has encouraged a reassessment of the possible pathogenesis of these tumors. Bowel has proven to be a versatile and effective tool in urinary tract reconstruction and has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years. Therefore, further clinical and experimental observations are imperative to improve our understanding of why and how often uroenteric tumors occur." @default.
