However, which of the 3 structures provokes obstruction is conjectural. The structural relations in this anomaly were compared to those of normal kidneys, hydronephroses from other causes and nonrotated kidneys. This anomaly was unique in that the pelvis and ureteropelvic junction bulged over the lower hilar segmental vessels instead of under as in other forms of hydronephrosis. Transient or permanent defects of medial rotation of the renal pelvis may account for the vulnerability of the ureteropelvic junction to obstruction by the lower anterior segmental branch of the renal artery, which was not aberrant in all the examples studied. © 1982 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByREHMAN J, LANDMAN J, SUNDARAM C and CLAYMAN R (2018) MISSED ANTERIOR CROSSING VESSELS DURING OPEN RETROPERITONEAL PYELOPLASTY: LAPAROSCOPIC TRANSPERITONEAL DISCOVERY AND REPAIRJournal of Urology, VOL. 166, NO. 2, (593-596), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2001.NAGAI A, NASU Y, HASHIMOTO H, TSUGAWA M, YASUI K and KUMON H (2018) RETROPERITONEOSCOPIC PYELOTOMY COMBINED WITH THE TRANSPOSITION OF CROSSING VESSELS FOR URETEROPELVIC JUNCTION OBSTRUCTIONJournal of Urology, VOL. 165, NO. 1, (23-26), Online publication date: 1-Jan-2001.KEELEY F, MOUSSA S, MILLER J and TOLLEY D (2018) A PROSPECTIVE STUDY OF ENDOLUMINAL ULTRASOUND VERSUS COMPUTERIZED TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY FOR DETECTING CROSSING VESSELS AT THE URETEROPELVIC JUNCTIONJournal of Urology, VOL. 162, NO. 6, (1938-1941), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1999.ROSS J, KAY R, KNIPPER N and STREEM S (2018) THE ABSENCE OF CROSSING VESSELS IN ASSOCIATION WITH URETEROPELVIC JUNCTION OBSTRUCTION DETECTED BY PRENATAL ULTRASONOGRAPHYJournal of Urology, VOL. 160, NO. 3 Part 2, (973-975), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1998.Kumon H, Tsugawa M, Hashimoto H, Yasui K, Hiraki Y and Ohmori H (2018) IMPACT OF 3-DIMENSIONAL HELICAL COMPUTERIZED TOMOGRAPHY ON SELECTION OF OPERATIVE METHODS FOR URETEROPELVIC JUNCTION OBSTRUCTIONJournal of Urology, VOL. 158, NO. 5, (1696-1700), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1997.Gupta M, Tuncay O and Smith A (2018) Open Surgical Exploration After Failed Endopyelotomy: A 12-year PerspectiveJournal of Urology, VOL. 157, NO. 5, (1613-1619), Online publication date: 1-May-1997.Sampaio F and Favorito L (2018) Ureteropelvic Junction Stenosis: Vascular Anatomical Background for EndopyelotomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 150, NO. 6, (1787-1791), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1993.Malden E, Picus D and Clayman R (2018) Arteriovenous Fistula Complicating EndopyelotomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 148, NO. 5 Part 1, (1520-1523), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1992.Smith A (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 146, NO. 6, (1495-1495), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1991.Van Cangh P, Jorion J, Wese F and Opsomer R (2018) Endoureteropyelotomy: Percutaneous Treatment of Ureteropelvic Junction ObstructionJournal of Urology, VOL. 141, NO. 6, (1317-1321), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1989.Clayman R (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 141, NO. 6, (1321-1321), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1989.Smith A (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 141, NO. 6, (1321-1322), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1989.Homsy Y, Mehta P, Huot D and Danais S (2018) Intermittent Hydronephrosis: A Diagnostic ChallengeJournal of Urology, VOL. 140, NO. 5 Part 2, (1222-1226), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1988.Clark W and Malek R (2018) Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction.
