- W2247181859 abstract "Producing fuel pellet from swine manure compost has been more interested due to a sharp rise in oil price. This study aimed to optimize pellet production process by determining physical characteristics of fuel pellets produced from the swine manure compost added with either wood bark or sawdust, and by identifying proper moisture content of compost, mixing ratio of industrial oil and rice hulling meal and appropriate diameter of sieve mesh. In result, calorific value and durability of pellet were higher when the compost was added with oil at a lower mixing ratio. Specific gravity decreased when the compost was mixed with oil at a higher mixing ratio and controlled with higher moisture content. Appearance density also decreased by the increased moisture content. Mixing with rice hulling meal resulted in lesser meal loss during pelleting process, compared to mixing with oil. The lowest specific gravity was found in the compost sieved through a 5-mm diameter mesh, compared to that sieved through a 1, 2, or 3-mm diameter mesh. This result indicates that compost in smaller particle size tends to be more compressed in pelleting process. All of the integrated data suggest that the swine dung compost should be controlled with moisture content between 15 and 20%, mixed with oil at a mixing ratio less than 1%, and sieved through a 3-mm diameter mesh in order to obtain the optimal fuel pellet. The ash content was lower in the compost added with the sawdust than that added with the wood bark. Two-fold higher contents of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) were found in both of the composts added with the sawdust and its pellets, compared to those of compost added with the wood bark and its pellets. All of the concentrations of combustion gases from the pellet were lower than the national emission standards of air pollution, except for carbon monoxide (CO). The overall and net efficiency of boiler was higher in the pellets from the compost with wood bark, compared to the pellets from the compost with sawdust." @default.
