- W2249416242 abstract "In general, the reduction of permeability by blockage of quicksand is concerned for the production of oil and natural gas. In this study, solidwater two-phase flow in frame sand sediment was numerically simulated by a three-dimensional Lattice-Boltzmann method. For each quicksand, a motion equation is solved by using the integral pressure distribution on its surface to determine its acceleration, velocity, and position. Shapes of real frame sands were extracted by series expansion of spherical harmonics using CT-scan images of real subsea core samples. Floating quicksands were assumed to be spherical and their volumetric fraction had a logarithmic Gaussian distribution. Pressure difference was imposed at the both ends of the computational domain to flow water. The quicksands trapped by the frame sands reduced absolute permeability. With this simulation, the mechanism of the blockage was analysed. The relatively larger particles are first trapped by the frame sands and, then, smaller particles fill in the space among the larger particles. Therefore, the distribution parameters, such as the mean size and the deviation, are the key for the blockage." @default.
