- W225079845 abstract "Three specimen (each one approximately 0.5x0.4 cm 2 in size) of the Renazzo meteorite coming from different broken edges of the stone (307g) housed at the Museo di Mineralogia ‘L.Bombicci’ in Bologna were analyzed by means a Philip SEM XL30 equipped with an LaB6 electron gun and with an EDAX X-ray spectrometer, in order to investigate the morphology, dimensions and chemical composition of individual chondrules, chondrule rims and fragments. The SEM was operating at 25kV together with a computerized electron detector able to determine the concentration (in weight and atoms) of chemical elements. Analyses evidenced that Renazzo is a unique carbonaceous chondrite in having: (1) abundant multilayered Fe metal-rich (low-Ni metal) chondrules (it is among the richest- in-metal carbonaceous chondrites); (2) metal mainly associated with chondrules and rarely in the matrix; (3) abundant matrix and dark inclusions (DI) that contain microchondrules and chondrule microfragments, compositionally similar to the larger chondrules in the rest of the meteorite; (5) abundant MgO-rich chondrules; (5) mantles of Fe, Ni metal on chondrules. Chemistry of individual components of Renazzo demonstrates that the chondrules, metal and matrix are genetically related, i.e. they formed in the same solar nebula. Nebular processes may be derived from the distribution of elements in Renazzo. The coexistence of low-Ni metal and hydrated minerals suggests a low-temperature, parent-body environment and limited water activity in the Renazzo parent body. The Renazzo-type chondrites are probably among the least altered and thus the most primitive meteorites, whereas CV, CO, ordinary and enstatite chondrites have experienced in their parent bodies higher degrees of metamorphism and severe aqueous alteration (as in CM and CI chondrites)." @default.
