Garuda Putraputrijaya that operates in Indonesia’s peanut industry. The analysis will be used to determine strategic opportunities and threats from external environment as well as to identi@ the strengths and weaknesses of the company. This research will also observe the company’s resources, in order to examine how those resources could become competitive advantage for the company. The research was done through direct observations and interviews with the management of PT. Garuda Putraputrijaya, and by collecting secondary data from internal and external sources. The data were being analyzed using qualitative techniques, by comparing the findings with the theoretical frameworks. Analysis on the external environment includes explorations on the peanut industry’s characteristics in Indonesia, intensity of competition and prospect of the industry, and dnving forces. From these analyses, the key success factors in peanut industry in Indonesia will be determined. The internal environment analysis consists of performance and productivity, value chain analysis, and competitive strength assessments of PT. Garuda Putraputrijaya. The internal environment analysis will identifjl the core capabilities and competencies of the company in the peanut industry in Indonesia. Comparing the findings of external and internal analyses with the theoretical frameworks on business strategy, the business strategy for PT. Garuda Putraputrijaya will be identified. The research concluded that the key success factors in peanut industry in Indonesia are good marketing intelligence, good marketing ability, strong distribution network, and ability to develop new products. The core capabilities of this company are implementation of quality management, big size that enables producing in lower costs, capability in building strong distribution network, and strong brand. PT. Garuda Putraputrijaya is pursuing the differentiation strategy in running its business. However, in applying this business strategy, the company must develop a good marketing intelligence by strengthening the distribution channel; also take the opportunity to expand its business in the global or international market. Another point that the company should consider in pursuing th~sst rategy is controlling the costs of its operations; therefore, the differentiation strategy will give benefits and profits for the company." @default.
