Patient age ranged from 4 months to 11 years (average age 34 months). The average operating time was 2 hours and 15 minutes, ranging from 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes. The usual period of hospitalization was 23 hours, with the longest being 36 hours for 2 patients. No complications ensued. Despite the decreased working space in children, laparoscopic renal surgery offers compelling advantages, including short hospitalization, less perioperative and postoperative pain, improved cosmesis, earlier return to normal unrestricted activities and early return to work for the parents. Methods to accomplish renal laparoscopic surgery safely in children are detailed. © 1994 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byPiaggio L, Franc-Guimond J, Figueroa T, Barthold J and González R (2018) Comparison of Laparoscopic and Open Partial Nephrectomy for Duplication Anomalies in ChildrenJournal of Urology, VOL. 175, NO. 6, (2269-2273), Online publication date: 1-Jun-2006.LEE R, RETIK A, BORER J, DIAMOND D and PETERS C (2018) PEDIATRIC RETROPERITONEAL LAPAROSCOPIC PARTIAL NEPHRECTOMY: COMPARISON WITH AN AGE MATCHED COHORT OF OPEN SURGERYJournal of Urology, VOL. 174, NO. 2, (708-712), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2005.GUPTA N, GOEL R, HEMAL A, DOGRA P, SETH A, ARON M, KUMAR R and ANSARI M (2018) SHOULD RETROPERITONEOSCOPIC NEPHRECTOMY BE THE STANDARD OF CARE FOR BENIGN NONFUNCTIONING KIDNEYS?
