TEM micrographs of the synthesized product collected at different axial heights (h) in the flame zone show the agglomeration of primary particles with the particle size ranged about 15-25 nm at h=3cm, 25-35nm at h=6cm, and 35-45nm at h=9cm. A set of chemical reactions describing the decomposition and reaction of HMDSO in the premixed flame to yield SiO2 was incorporated into a numerical model using the CFD-RC code to calculate the temperature and gaseous species concentration profiles. Numerical simulation showed a rapid increase of SiO mole fraction, implying the immediate decomposition of HMDSO. The peak concentration of gaseous SiO2 in the axial profile was observed at a location, where the SiO was almost totally consumed. The SiO2 mole fraction increases noticeably with the increasing HMDSO concentration. In addition, the growth of SiO2 particles in the synthesis flame was formulated using the Brownian collision and coalescence model. The sticking coefficient representing the fraction of successful collisions was determined to be 0.175, which yielded the calculated particle size in good agreement with the experimental measurement." @default.
