- W2257261719 abstract "Vibration control of structures has been a major concern for a long time. Active vibration control has the capability of counteracting undesirable vibrations by imparting a force produced by the control system dissipating the external vibrations imposed on the structure. In this paper, active control is performed on a 15DOF structure using fuzzy logic controllers. There are two controllers in this structure; one at the top floor controlling the maximum displacement produced at that floor (since the fundamental frequency is being considered here), the other at the second floor controlling the maximum inter-storey shear forces occurring there. These actuators are linear ones therefore mass; damping and stiffness parameters are time invariable. The structure is equipped with a single active tuned mass damper (ATMD) at the top. The mass damper is an auxiliary rigid mass which reduces the original natural frequencies of the primary structure and prevents the structure's fundamental frequency and the external vibration frequency from coming close to each other. The aforementioned structure is subjected to the 1940 earthquake, Elcentro (Mw=7.1) normalized to 1.5g as the peak ground acceleration (PGA). Modelling procedure is carried out using the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) approach. The training is off-line. During the quake induced vibrations of the structure and the free vibration afterwards, the actuators produce control forces in each time step to mitigate the damaging external vibrations. It is observed that with different epochs and different numbers of membership functions, both ANFIS modeling systems, one on each level (two and fifteen), lead to great performance for a number of epochs and the membership function adopted." @default.
