- W2257269567 abstract "50 Years of the Rocky Mountain Review As the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, the organization would like to acknowledge the scholars who have edited its publications through the years. Beginning in 1947 as a newsletter and conference program, the Rocky Mountain MLA Bulletin, then News Bulletin (1951-65), then Bulletin ofthe Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association (196574 ), became a full quarterly in 1966, publishing scholarly papers for the first time. Called the Rocky Mountain Review ofLanguage and Literature since 1975, the Review is now larger than ever, publishing 224 pages of scholarly articles and book reviews in a twiceyearly format. Although the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association is one of the smaller of the regional MLA associations, the Review is exceeded in longevity only by the South Atlantic Review, the publication of the South Atlantic MLA, which began in 1935. If library subscriptions can be taken as an indication of the journal's reputation , the Rocky Mountain Review is well respected. More libraries subscribe to the Review than to any ofthe other regional MLA publications , and the subscription list is international, with the Review in the collections of the National Library of Scotland, the Bibliothèque Nationale, the British Library, and university collections in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and Taiwan. Another gauge of the reputation of a journal is how widely it is indexed: the Rocky Mountain Review is indexed in the MLA International Bibliography, the MHRA Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature, LLBA, NCTE Abstracts of English Studies, and the Book Review Index. The respect for the Rocky Mountain Review of Language and Literature that all this indicates is, of course, thanks to the quality of the work we are able to publish. Highly selective, the Review in recent years has been accepting only about one essay in seven submissions , or about 15%. As the current editor, I am gratified by the level of scholarship submitted by the RMMLA membership and by the correspondingly high praise our essays receive from expert reviewers . I wish the same good fortune on the next fifty years of editors ! Ian Widmayer 115 Editors of the Rocky Mountain Review ofLanguage and Literature 1947-49G. W.
