- W2261336329 abstract "From the Book:PREFACE: PrefaceDear Reader, You have begun a book that is unique in many ways. First, the team who wrote this book are IBM and external technical professionals from countries around the globe. They were part of a short project exploring the new component architecture of Enterprise JavaBeans. Second, this publication is meant to smoothly connect theoretical and practical elements into one natural flow; in doing this, the book will easily find its home on the bookshelves of architects and consultants, and, likewise, it could find its place on the desk of developers to guide them through their first steps in the implementation of this new architecture. This book goes beyond the technical value of Java and JavaBeans and looks at adding real business value to an enterprise. IBM, Sun, and several other vendors have worked together to create the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) specification. With this specification, developers can create server-side business components in Java, suitable for use in industrial-strength object-oriented and multitiered applications. This means Java components receive full life-cycle support and can participate in transactions and interoperate with resource managers, such as database managers, in a secure fashion. Extending the principles of its Java heritage, The EJB specification also incorporates the notion of develop once, deploy anywhere. With EJBs, it becomes possible to create reusable server-side Java components that can be managed in the runtime environment of any vendor who provides EJB servers conforming to the specification. The team who wrote this publication tried toanswerwhy, what, and how questions in that order. So, after you have practical experience with the simple sample scenarios, you should have a solid understanding of Enterprise JavaBeans and be ready to study this fascinating technology more deeply. We wish you good luck in this endeavor. The Team That Wrote This Book The Jalapeno TeamThis book was produced by a team of specialists from around the world, working at the International Technical Support Organization, Austin Center. Henri Jubin is currently working for the International Technical Support Organization (ITSO) in Austin where he covers the area of Object-Oriented Technology. Henri has previously worked in various support and consulting positions within IBM France. He has dealt with topics such as object-oriented technology and OS/2. Jurgen Friedrichs is a project leader in the OO/AD group at the International Technical Support Organization (ITSO), Austin Center. In the past year, Jurgen led various Java projects in the ITSO. Before joining the ITSO in 1997, Jurgen worked in Technical Marketing Support for OS/2, Warp Server, and TCP/IP in Germany. Douglas Kosovic is a Research and Development Engineer at DSTC Pty Ltd (Distributed Systems Technology Centre) in Brisbane, Australia. He coauthored the initial and revised specification submission for OMG's DCE/CORBA Interworking RFC. Douglas wrote all CORBA clients and servers (including those for IBM DSOM) in the CORBAnet showcase (see ..." @default.
