- W2263297152 abstract "ABSTRACT Trends in relative sea-level change, shown by curves drawn from drill core and outcrop sections, were used to correlate individual among widely separated localities in Llandoverian carbonates of the Hudson Bay Platform. Correlations show that two sequences, bounded by regional disconformities, are present: (1) the Severn River Formation and (2) the Ekwan River and Attawapiskat formations, and possibly part of the Kenogami River Formation (listed in ascending order). Initial onlap of marine facies at the base of the Severn River Formation progressed from north to south, occurring first in the Hudson Bay Basin then in the Moose River Basin; final retreat of the seas at the end of Attawapiskat time was in the opposite direction. The Moose River Basin was always shallower than the Hudson Bay Basin, but both basins were remarkably shallow and flat. The most extensive inundations occurred during Ekwan River and Attawapiskat depositional times. For the remainder of the Silurian following Attawapiskat time, only supratidal facies or subaerial exposure surfaces are recorded on the platform, indicating that relative sea level was very low at that time. Correlations based on matching trends in relative sea-level change show that strata of the upper Ekwan River Formation in the southern Moose River Basin are time equivalents of the Attawapiskat reefs in the northern part of the basin and that reefal outcrops along the Attawapiskat River represent one interval of reef growth. Large-scale trends in the relative sea-level curves delineate four major Early Silurian sea-level highstands (late Rhuddanian, late Aeronian, early Telychian and late Telychian) also recognized in other basins across North America. RESUME Les tendances des fluctuations du niveau relatif de la mer, enregistrees dans les carbonates d'age Llandoverien de la plate-forme de la baie d'Hudson, sont illustrees par des courbes dessinees a partir de carottes de forage et de sections d'affleurement. Ces courbes ont ete utilisees pour correler des parasequences individuelles etablies a des sites separes par de tres grandes distances. Les correlations ont demontrees que deux sequences, delimitees par des discordances regionales, sont presentes: 1) la formation de Severn River et 2) les formations d'Ekwan River et d'Attawapiskat ainsi qu'une partie de la formation de Kenogami River (enumerees en ordre ascendant). La transgression marine initiale a progressee du nord vers le sud au debut de la periode de Severn River, se produisant en premier lieu dans le bassin de la baie d'Hudson et ensuite dans celui de Moose River. Le retrait final des mers, a la fin de la periode d'Attawapiskat, s'est fait dans la direction opposee. Le bassin de Moose River a toujours ete moins profond que celui de la baie d'Hudson, quoique les deux bassins etaient remarquablement plat et peu profond. Les innodations les plus etendues se sont produites durant les periodes de deposition des formations d'Ekwan River et d'Attawapiskat. Durant le reste du Silurien, apres la periode d'Attawapiskat, la plate-forme ne presentent que des facies supralittoraux ou des surfaces exposees aux conditions athmospheriques indiquant un niveau relatif de la mer tres bas pour cette periode. Les correlations, basees sur les tendances des fluctuations du niveau relatif de la mer s'appariant les unes aux autres, demontrent que les strates superieures de la formation d'Ekwan River situees dans la portion sud du bassin de Moose River sont des equivalents temporels des recifs d'Attawapiskat situes dans la portion nord de ce meme bassin. Elles indiquent aussi que les affleurements de recifs le long de la riviere Attawapiskat ne representent qu'un seul intervalle de croissance. Les courbes generalisees soulignent quatre periodes de niveaux de mer eleves durant le Silurien inferieur (Rhuddanien superieur, Aeronien superieur, Telychien inferieur et Telychien superieur) qui sont reconnues aussi dans d'autres bassins de l'Amerique du Nord.
