- W2265450686 abstract "There is very little in the published literature about intrauterine fragmentation of IUDs. This article presents 16 such cases all in patients wearing Lippes Loop. In 6 cases a fragment was spontaneously expelled; in 8 cases there was bleeding and pain; and in the remaining 2 cases the rupture was totally unsuspected. 15 patients required intrauterine manipulation for the extraction of the remaining part of IUD; X-rays were necessary in 9 cases and curettage in 4. In 6 patients the IUD ruptured in different fragments. The incidence of such complication is very low but it is necessary to report it immediately. The only real complication is the fact that it requires intrauterine manipulation and cervical dilatation procedures which are both at least potentially dangerous. (Summary in ENG)" @default.
