- W2266725821 abstract "2133 Objectives In this study, experiments were designed and conducted to investigate the mechanism and the spectral characteristic of the luminescence signal from 18F-FDG induced rare earth. Methods Firstly, two EP tubes filled with rare earth (Eu2O3, 0.107 g) and 18F-FDG (277 µCi) were prepared, respectively. They were placed in the imaging chamber of the IVIS Spectrum system with a distance of 1 cm. Then IVIS was turned on to see whether there was luminescence signal or not. Secondly, a serious of luminescent images of two EP tubes filled with Eu2O3 and 18F-FDG (470 µCi) respectively were acquired by the IVIS. The distance between them was 2.5 cm. The 18F-FDG tube was covered with a black box and a lead-shielded pot one after another during the imaging acquisition to find out what induced the luminescence signal. The black box blocked the Cerenkov luminescence light, and the lead pot blocked the γ ray. Finally, to obtain the spectral distribution, the luminescence signals of Eu2O3 were acquired by use of 12 filters from 500 nm to 800 nm. Results The IVIS did detect the luminescence signals induced from Eu2O3 by 18F-FDG. The picture of a luminescent image of Eu2O3 and 18F-FDG is shown in Figure 1(A). Figure 1(B) and 1(c) illustrate the luminescence images of Eu2O3 when the 18F-FDG tube was covered with the black box and the lead-shielded pot, respectively. In the latter case, luminescence signals were not detected from the Eu2O3 tube.Figure 1(D) shows the spectral distribution of the induced luminescence. Conclusions This study suggested that the Eu2O3 was induced by the γ rays came from 18F-FDG, which resulted in generating the luminescence light. Furthermore, the spectral distribution results showed two peaks in red and near infrared light area. This luminescent property offered a great promise for better penetration depth in the biological tissues, which might be used for a new optical imaging strategy." @default.
