- W2270354884 abstract "This study answers the question what motives volunteers in care and whether they are satisfied with their work. Volunteers are driven by different motives. In this research the motives of the functional approach (normative, learning, social, career, protection and quality) will be related to three issues (support organization, participation-efficacy and group integration) of the Voluntary Satisfaction Index (VSI). Two hundred and fifty volunteers, who all worked in a hospital, were approached to participate in a survey. Of this group, 87 completed the questionnaire. The results showed that volunteers in care mostly volunteer from a normative motive, followed by the motive to learn. Regarding satisfaction with volunteering, it appears that the volunteers in this study were satisfied with the support they receive from the organization and the extent to which they come into contact with others. Contrary to what we expected, there is no correlation between satisfaction with the voluntary work and the intention to continue the work, nor a correlation between the motives and the intention to continue the work. In addition, we found that volunteers who were driven by the motive of protection, were less satisfied with the way in which they contribute to the welfare of another person (participation-efficacy).Overall, it can be concluded that volunteers in care mostly volunteer from a normative motive and that they like to learn from it. In addition, volunteers are generally satisfied with the support of the organization and the social contacts." @default.
