- W2272631947 abstract "As China continues to make the transition to a market economy and to emerge as a global economic power, entrepreneurship grows increasingly important.The ethics of entrepreneurship in China revolves around guanxi (connections), interpersonal networks that Chinese use as a crucial social resource to pursue their personal interests.Despite the attempts of the government to replace guanxi with more egalitarian, bureaucratic controls, entrepreneurs continue to exploit their guanxi with local officials to maximize both protection and profit.They also maintain strong guanxi with fellow entrepreneurs.While decentralization of economic control has resulted in rapid growth, many entrepreneurs are using their newly acquired liberty and power to exploit large numbers of Chinese citizens.Reports of terrible sweatshop conditions in the Chinese textile and footwear industries indicate that owners are eager to achieve competitive advantage by spending as little as possible on labor. Until the government decides that China is ready can compete in world markets with developed-world working conditions, sweatshops will likely remain alive and well.(SAA)" @default.
