- W2274739977 abstract "This paper investigates the use of the Block-Matching 3D algorithm (BM3D) to remove noise in mammographic images. The main objective is to study the possibility of using the BM3D technique to allow a radiation dose reduction in digital mammography, by removing the extra noise incorporated in the image when the photon-counting rate is reduced. Results were obtained by denoising synthetic mammograms acquired with different levels of radiation exposure, where the BM3D parameters were adjusted to provide better attenuation of noise without blurring or insertion of artifacts at the final image. We also tested the BM3D under Anscombe domain in order to evaluate whether the noise is better removed or not. Evaluation of denoising performance were conducted by comparing mammographic images acquired with normal dose of radiation to a set of images acquired at lower doses levels, after processed by BM3D method.
