- W2276015403 abstract "This chapter reviews aims, technical procedures, and results of some investigations into the behavior of in vivo implants of growing skeletal organs. Virtually any embryonic, fetal, or early postnatal bone will survive removal from limb or body implantation into an adequate vascular site in a suitable host. Particular interest has been in experimental morphogenesis and growth, using young mouse bones as implants. However, with little difficulty, the application of this technique to problems in endocrinology, genetics, immunology, pathology, and related specialties can be visualized, where one or more characteristics of the isolated bones may be used as criteria. The chapter reviews experimental conditions and techniques, the behavior of free skeletal organ implants, and investigations in which this behavior is utilized for other experimental purposes. As a contemporary technique, in vivo skeletal organ implantation has both advantages and disadvantages relative to in vitro organ culture and grafting onto the chorioallantoic membrane of fowl embryos." @default.
