- W2276398883 abstract "Six different diets were tested in a feeding experiment with mice with a duration of 19 days. Five of these contained Sr/sup 89/ and Ca/sup 45/ incorporated in the green material of red clover, peas, oats, timothy, and spinach, and one contained non-radioactive red clover with Sr/sup 89/ and Ca/sup 45/ added in solution. No extra Ca and Sr was added to the diet. The radioactivity was measured in feces and urine from the last 8 days of the experiment and in the bodies of the mice after creation at the end of the experiment. The retention was estimated from the body analysis as well as from the balance data. The availability of Ca and Sr in the green material from peas and timothy was found to be less than in that from red clover and oats. However, the data for oats are somewhat doubtful. The spinach diet was unsuitable for the mice, since both Ca and Sr were very unavailable in this plant. In all diets except that containing spinach there was a discrimination against Sr in the retention as compared with Ca. The OR/sub body-diet/was about 0.3. No significant difference in availability was found when Ca and Srmore » were incorporated in the green material of the red clover and when it was added in solution to the diet.
