• W2277903843 abstract "The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a self-growth group counseling program on the psychological skills factor and career decision making level of middle school players. The subjects in this study were 24 middle school athletes who belonged to the Korean Olympic Committee and registered with Korea Association of Athletics Federations. Out of them, 12 students who were members of the athletic club for which this researcher was responsible as a coach were selected as an experimental group, and 12 students who were members of another athletic club in a different region were selected as a control group. To ensure the equivalency of the two groups, the athletes who had similar exercise experience(three or four years) and had never participated in a group counseling program were selected. As for data analysis, the statistical package SPSS 22.0 was employed, and independent-sample t-test was carried out to check the equivalency of the two groups in terms of psychological skills factor and career decision level. And paired-sample t-test was conducted to see whether there would be any differences between their pretest and posttest scores. The level of significance was all set at a=.05. The findings of the study were as follows: First, regarding the psychological skills factor, the experimental group showed a statistically significant improvement in crisis overcoming, pressure relieving, target setting, attention, confidence/achievement motivation and overall psychological skills factor. There was no significant change in the control group. Second, concerning career decision level, the experimental group showed a statistically significant improvement in career undecidedness factor and overall career decision level. There was no change in the control group. The above-mentioned findings suggested that the self-growth group counseling program exercised a positive influence on the improvement of the psychological skills factor and career decision level of the middle school athletes.
