- W2278304567 abstract "480 Objectives To compare FDG-PET/CT and conventional imaging(CI) at detecting metastatic disease in Osteosarcoma(OS) and Ewing’s sarcoma(EWS) patients. Methods Patients Results 415 metastatic lesions were available in 64 patients(44 EWS, 20 OS). For OS patients PET/CT was available only at FU and was superior to CI for bone(AC=100%) but similar to CI(AC=87.5% of CT) for nodal lesions. PET/CT was complementary to CT in the evaluation of lung nodules(higher SP:88% vs. 75%, but lower SS:77.4% vs. 93.5%). PET/CT showed diagnostic benefit in 17.3% of scans(6.7% “fewer false lesions” and 10.7%“more true lesions”). For EWS patients PET/CT performed better in follow-up than in staging(SS=71.4% vs. 85.7%,SP=86.5 vs. 54.17%,PPV=73.0% vs. 62.1%,NPV:85.6% vs. 81.3%,AC=81.4 vs. 68.9%). For lung lesions, PET/CT was specific than CT(SP=53.3% vs. 46.7% in staging and 90.8 vs. 84.7% at FU); but, SS was related to nodule size: SS=30.8% for a minimum size of 6 mm(n=57), 66.7% for a minimum of 8 mm(n=36), and 100% for a minimum of 10 mm(n=24). Diagnostic benefit of PET/CT was greater for staging (5/18 scans(27.8%): 2 fewer false lesions”, 3 more true lesions”) than for FU(30/328 scans(9.1%):17 fewer false lesions”, 13 more true lesions”). Conclusions PET/CT provides improved characterization of metastatic lesions when compared to CI. The assessment of lung nodules by PET/CT is affected by lesion size. Future studies should address the optimal timing of PET/CT." @default.
