- W2278321086 abstract "Objective: Tigecycline is the first member of glycylcycline group. It binds to the 30 S ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis. Tigecycline has antimicrobial activity against Gram positive, Gram negative and anaerob pathogens. It is a bacteriostatic agent but it also has bactericidal potential. In this study, we compared the susceptibility of tigecycline and other antimicrobial agents against different clinical strains isolated at our hospital. Different clinical specimens obtained from outclinic patients and hospitalized patients were taken into the study. Materials and Methods: The identification was done both by conventional methods and automatized Vitek 2 (BioMerieux, France) system. The minimal inhibitor concentration values of tigecycline were studied by E-test (AB Biodisk, Solna, Sweeden). Results: A total of 204 isolates were studied. The bacterial pathogens evaluated included methicilline resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (14), methicilline susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) (24), extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) positive E. coli (96), ESBL positive Klebsiella pneumoniae (25), Enterococcus feacalis (25), Acinetobacter baumanii (20). Tigecycline demonstrated excellent activity against all Gram positive cocci. The susceptibility of tigecycline against ESBL positive E.coli was 97.9%, ESBL positive K. pneumoniae 92%. This rate for Gram positive cocci were 100%. Acinetobacter baumanii isolates showed 85% tigecycline susceptibility. Conclusion: Tigecycline exihibits strong activity among soft tissue and intraabdominal infections. Besides, tigecycline has shown great activity against MRSA, Enterobacteriacae, ESBL producing Gram negative bacteriae and Gram positive cocci. It is an important choice in infections with polymicrobial pathogens." @default.
