• W2279179916 abstract "Objective: To check the breastfeeding prevalence alone so as to identify interfering variables of breastfeeding babies within their first week of life and being assisted in a Child-Friendly hospital. Methods: Longitudinal study consisted of 202 mothers assisted in a maternity ward of Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceicao in the city of Tubarao (SC). The mothers were asked to answer some directed questions soon after their discharge from the hospital. The questions consisted of demographic data (age, civil status, schooling), pregnancies and former breastfeeding (prenatal appointments and participation of pregnant women groups) and who would help them assist the newborn babies. After one week of customary follow-up, the mothers returned to the hospital to respond to a new directed questionnaire, of which, they were asked whether they had been only breastfeeding or if the babies were making use of the pacifier as a substitute for breastfeeding, should that be the case. The data provided by means of Chi-square and Tstudent test found a significance level of 95% for both. Results: The results showed a high prevalence of breastfeeding alone (92.6%) as shown by the sample analyzed. Just to add up to this situation, a significant correlation was found between a higher school level and a larger number of prenatal appointments; being the latter one related to continuing breastfeeding." @default.
