- W2279427282 abstract "High-speed ferries are now widely used for transporting passengers and cars or only passengers. These ferries are built of various types eg, catamaran, monohull, hydrofoil, air cushion, surface effect, foil assisted catamaran, and small-waterplane-area-twin-hull (SWATH), etc. Not many SWATHs are built in comparison with the monohull or catamaran type. SWATH has definite advantages in specific routes where seakeeping qualities are of high priority. This paper is a record of the study carried out on the methodology of preliminary design of high-speed SWATH ferries. A mathematical model is developed for rapid prototyping to determine the principal design parameters at the preliminary design stage minimising resistance, minimising lightship weight and maximising quasi propulsive coefficient and net present value index of the operation. Seakeeping and structural analysis are not included in the model. To find solutions, the Decision Support Problem Technique (DSPT) is used. This method was used successfully by the author for preliminary design of other various marine vehicles. The model is validated for a set of owner's requirements and operating conditions (500 passengers, 50 vehicles, 15 crew and one way distance of 155 nautical miles, and 38 knots). Sensitivity analysis was also carried out varying speed and payload. Results are shown in graphical forms and discussed." @default.
