- W2279463572 abstract "Connections between hagiography and archaeology are very interesting and open to significant developments.Comparing hagiographical data drawn from literary sources to those evident in ancient monuments, it’s indeed possible to resolve doubts about the origins and evolutions of many different cults. This research focuses on the cult of Saint Felicita and Her Seven Sons, known in Rome since the 4th century. It shows how, combining hagiographical and archaeological sources, they both contribute significantly to an accurate reconstruction of the traditions of such cult. According to hagiographical sources, it was possible to define the evolution of Saint Felicita’s cult and to shed light on the dynamics leading to the development of this hagiographical tradition. The archaeological sources, on the other hand, suggested interesting information, crucial for understanding the most peculiar features of this cult since the 4th century (when the “Peace of the Church” led to significant transformations) since the 8th century (when the remains of the martyrs were moved to urban churches and previous cult and burial places fell into desuse)." @default.
