- W2279806064 abstract "Hypertension is the most prevalent risk factor for cardiovasculardisease (CVD), the leading cause of deathworldwide, especially in developed countries. Geneticand environmental determinants play important rolesin hypertension and its complications. This publicationgives a short introduction to the pathogenesis of CVDand summarizes the current findings of the genetic factorsinvolved. This review focuses on a better understandingof the role of candidate genes polymorphismsthat play a crucial role in blood pressure regulation, hemostatic processes, oxidative stress and inflammatoryresponses leading to endothelial damage, and as a result,to vascular remodeling and microalbuminuria. Those gene variants could contribute to inter-individualdifferences in susceptibility to and outcome of essentialhypertension. Therefore, the major challenge in cardiovascularmedicine is to find a way of predicting the riskof hypertension complications by genetic markers that, used with imaging techniques, could lead to the developmentof new and better diagnostic and therapeuticmethods.
