- W2280662022 abstract "This analysis finds that prenatal care in Egypt and medical attention at delivery had confounding effects on contraceptive use. Parity had the most important effect on contraceptive use. Maternal age was positively associated with contraceptive use. Maternal education had a strong effect on contraceptive use. Differences were greatest between uneducated women and women with some primary education. Working women were more likely to use contraception than nonworking women. Husbands working in agriculture was associated with a lower likelihood of using contraception. Findings support the view that contraception was used mostly for stopping childbearing. Bivariate analysis of maternal care services indicates that place of delivery had the highest regression coefficient. Delivery at a health facility increased the odds of using contraception by 1.5 times compared to a home delivery. The odds of contraceptive use were increased by prenatal care check-ups during pregnancy and by a delivery attended by a physician. Multivariate analysis that included socioeconomic characteristics indicates that prenatal care no longer was significant. Many socioeconomic characteristics were associated with increased odds of contraceptive use to varying degrees. Contraceptive use in 1991 followed a U-shaped pattern by maternal age. Method choices were similar in urban and rural areas. The IUD was the most popular method followed by the pill. Contraceptive use was more prevalent among women with a parity of 4-5 living children and urban women. 71% of women with 1 child received prenatal care but the likelihood of a pregnancy check-up declined with increases in parity and increased with urban residence and primary education. The likelihood of a delivery taking place in a health facility was greater among women with 1 child and declined with increases in parity." @default.
