The levels in Cd+, which are the first identified autoionizing levels of that ion species, were directly pumped by photoionization with broadband soft-x-ray emission from a laser-produced plasma produced by focusing the 50 mJ, 70 psec output from a Nd:YAG laser onto a metal tgrget nside a Cd vapor cell [1]. The autoionizing time of the 4d95s6s 2D5/2 state was measured to be 460 +/− 50 psec which is in good agreement with the RCN/RCG multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock atomic physics code [2] prediction of 490 psec." @default.
