- W2284533907 abstract "A pressure transducer of a security device in form of a fme membrane consisting of rubber 1 elastomer material exhibits hyperelastic hysteretic material behaviour. It must sustain practically an unlimited number of perpetual loading and unloading without any damage. To ensure this reliability it is of crucial importance that the stresses are distributed as homogenous as possible and remain under a certain allowable level during the whole cycle, which imposes considerable pressure and large displacements on the membrane structure. Due to inherent nonlinearities it is practically not straight forward to predict the optimal shape for such a membrane fullfilling the mentioned above. A step by step optimisation approach by means of several measurements on many prototypes of the final product can be a time consuming and expensive process. However, the combined use of experimental and computational techniques including appropriate material models and specific software like Abaqus and HyperOpt enables efficient design solutions. Within the framework of the evaluation of possible improvements of the product geometry Sulzer recently performed parametric studies for internal and external customers. After adjustment of the main parameters concerning OGDEN type of material modelling by means of experimental data, a number of simulations have been carried out for the pressure transducer (membrane) on an axisymmetric ABAQUS FE model, consisting of approximately 400 elements only. These investigations aimed firstly to quantify the repeatability of the product tests under operational conditions and on the other hand to find out the positions and magnitudes of stress concentrations in the structure. Based on the results of these analyses, several shape optimisation trials have been performed in a second step using the features of HyperOpt. The details of the computational optimisation process as well as the significant results obtained are presented and interpreted in this paper." @default.
