- W2285089834 abstract "Puccinia psidii Winter, the causal agent of Myrtaceae rust, occurs in America from South of United States to Argentina. The disease affects important Myrtaceae forestry and fruitful species, resulting in losses that can reach up to 100% of production. Environmental factors such as mild temperatures, moist and host phenology affect the disease development because only young tissues can be infected. Earlier researches proposed that exists physiological variability in P psidii populations. To test this hypothesis cross inoculations were done using as hosts: Corymbia citriodora (=Eucalyptus citriodora), guava (Psidium guajava), rose apple (Syzygium jambos), cereja-dorio grande (Eugenia sp) and uvaia (E. uvalha). P. psidii urediniospores were gotten from guava, rose apple, cambuca (E. cambucae), jabuticabeira (Myrciaria cauliflord), Eucalyptus grandis from Horto de Itatinga, SP and Eucalyptus spp cultivated at UNESP - Câmpus Botucatu, SP. Urediniospores suspensions at 10 4 spores.mL - 1 were prepared, separately, in distilled water containing Tween 20 and sprinkled on both leafs surfaces of each host. After inoculations, the plants remained for 12 hours under humid chamber. Each treatment was composed by 30 plants, being 6 of each host. The following variables were evaluated: disease incidence, latent period, infection frequency and disease intensity. From the used infective structures four groups of physiological variability were observed: Group 1, urediniospores collected from Syzygium jambos, Eucalyptus grandis and Eucalyptus spp; Group 2, constituted by urediniosporos from Psidium guajava; Group 3, urediniospores collected from Myrciaria cauliflora and Group 4, constituted by urediniospores from E. cambucae. The variables that contributed for splitting of the cited groups were intensity and frequency infection, due to attainment of distinguishing reactions on the hosts. The variable incidence revealed to be inadequate for grouping the different urediniospores origins because similar number of plants, in each treatment, showed infection signs." @default.
