- W2285402717 abstract "Deformation and damage of argillaceous rocks are studied at microscale with help of the environmental scanning electron microscope. The deformation at micrometric scale of the argillaceous zones in between calcite and quartz grains, evaluated by the digital image correlation technique, shows a complex hydromechanical coupling. Some irreversible deformations are observed in the clay matrix during a hydric cycle, as well as local damage in the form of a network of microcracks, located in the bulk of the clay matrix and/or at the interface between clay and other mineral particles. The morphology of this network has been observed to be dependent on the speed of the variation of the relative humidity.
