- W2285757219 abstract "Antibiotics resistance is a health problem worldwide, which is characterized by low or no effective treatments against bacterial infections that increase morbidity and mortality in septicemia patients. In Mexico, part of the problem has been attributed to self-medication and uncontrolled antibiotics sale. Today is necessary to emphasize regulation of pharmaceuticals classifi ed as generic or similar drugs because they lack of quality control, which may cause low effectiveness of the drug and thus promote drug resistance in the Mexican population. In this paper we analyzed the drug resistance prevalence in bacteria identifi ed in hemocultures obtained of patients with septicemia from Mexico City. We found that drugs such as linezolid, imipenem and gatifl oxacin are the most effective drugs against bacterial strains with the highest rate of drug resistance in this population. However, penicillins were less effective drugs because of drug resistant bacteria. We also found that the bacteria with more drug resistance index in our studies were Staphylococcus hominis, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. * Departamento de Microbiologia, Laboratorio Carpermor, Grupo Diagnostico Medico Proa (GDMP).
