Objective: The aim of this study was to determine an empirically derived cut-off value between anti hypertensive prescription refills that predicts long-term discontinuation. Design, settings and subjects : A retrospective cohort study of newly diagnosed hypertensive subjects aged >30 years during the period between Jan 1 2003 to May 31 2006 was conducted using a large pharmacy benefit manager database in the United States. Descriptive analysis was used to characterize the study population.
