- W2292716154 abstract "The structure and floristic composition of a secondary forest was studied, 11 1/2 years after clear cutting, at the Piste de St-Elie study site, French Guiana. Three hundred and eight species were identified on the 25 ha study plot, against 163 species only eight years earlier. Pioneer species were still the most numerous on this plot in 1988, 12 of them representing 58 % of the woody plants enumerated (Tab. III). However, the number of Cecropia obtusa greatly diminished between 1980 and 1988, and 71 % of the standing individuals remaining were obviously withering. Among all plant families already present in 1980, the number of species increased during the following 8 years, except for the Solanaceae which disappeared completely (Tab. IV). Many species present in the undergrowth and the canopy of the surrounding mature forest made their appearance in the study plot during the same 8 year interval." @default.
