- W2293156629 abstract "The current study is an exploration into parental philosophies behind their involvement in the academic lives of their children. 14 pairs of parents and children were interviewed and the data gathered was analyzed using thematic analysis. The role that parents play in shaping the academic and vocational choices of their children was analyzed. The framework of this study included children’s perspectives on parental involvement in their academic lives as well. This was to gain insight into children’s point of view on how similar or different their thinking was from their parents on matters such as education, hobbies, career goals, academic expectations. The key findings suggested that parents were actively involved in their children’s education. Their participation was particularly prominent during children’s examinations, while making vocational choices and in providing motivation to children. Children were aware of the academic expectations parents from them and were satisfied by parents’ nature of participation. Competition in academics emerged as one of the major stressors for children. Appreciation from parents was an important motivator for future performance." @default.
