- W2293675871 abstract "Publisher Summary The chapter describes research of paramagnetic salts at low temperatures. The knowledge of paramagnetics are increasing by the development of the paramagnetic relaxation method of measuring their specific heats, and still more by the very powerful paramagnetic resonance method of investigation, by which a spectroscopic technique is applied to the study of paramagnetism. As a result detailed knowledge not only of the substances mentioned in the chapter, but also of a wide range of others. This chapter proposes to review this new information, and especially to consider the light it throws on salts useful for demagnetization work. From this point of view ones are interested in salts which at the lowest temperatures attainable by the evaporation of liquid helium possess considerable entropy, which can be reduced by an isothermal magnetization; that is, they behave like an assembly of weakly interacting magnetic dipoles, whose orientation in the absence of a magnetic field is completely random." @default.
