- W2295006988 abstract "Aims & Objectives: Prostate cancer (PC), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatitis are the most common disorders of prostate gland. Prostate specific antigen (PSA), being the gold standard to identify these diseases is not of much importance in differential diagnosis. This study focuses on the blood levels of PSA, urea, BUN, creatinine, BUN/creatinine and eGFR and the correlations between these parameters and note the association of prostate disorders with renal dysfunction.Methodology: PSA, urea, BUN,creatinine and phosphate were estimated in serum of 25 patients each diagnosed to have prostatitis,BPH and carcinoma prostate .Kruskalwallistestand Spearman’s rank correlation was used to study the statistical difference between the diseases. Results:There was a significant negative correlation of eGFR with PSA and asignificant positive correlation of eGFR with BUN/creatinine in patients with BPH. No other parameters correlated in other disorders were found to be significant. Conclusion: Based on our results it can be concluded that patients with BPH are most likely to progress into kidney dysfunction and eGFR may be a better marker as compared to BUN/creatinine ratio in the assessment of kidney damage consequent to prostate hypertrophy." @default.
