- W2296866427 abstract "Stink bugs are becoming increasingly important impediments to successful soybean production in Southeast Texas. Many farmers spray multiple times annually to control these pests. New chemistries must be evaluated continually to provide stakeholders with the best pest management tools possible. The experiment was conducted at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center located near Beaumont, TX. The experiment was designed as a RCB with 6 treatments and 4 replications. Plot size was 8 rows (30 inches between rows) by 20 ft. On 21 May, plots were drill-planted into Morey silt loam soil. Seeding rate was about 8 seeds per linear ft. First Rate and Dual Magnum herbicides were applied before soybean emergence which occurred about 5 days after planting. Weed control was excellent throughout the experiment. The experiment was rain-fed and plots were not irrigated. Plots were periodically inspected for insect pests, particularly stink bugs and Lepidoptera, which were not observed in abundance until about mid-Sep. Thus, treatments were applied 25 Sep. Treatments were applied with a 2-person, CO2 pressurized spray boom (spray swath 21ft) equipped with 13 nozzles (no. 2 cone) and 50 mesh screens. Final spray volume was18 gpa. Soybeans were in R5/6 stage of development. At 3, 7, 11 and 17 DAT, plots were sampled with a 15 inch diameter sweep net. Eight sweeps were taken in each plot on each sample date. Arthropods were identified and counted. On 19 Nov, the 2 middle rows of each plot were harvested with a combine. Yields were adjusted to 13% moisture. Seed was visually rated for quality using a 1-5 scale where 1 is excellent and 5 is poor. Counts were transformed [square root (x + 1⁄2)] and all data analyzed by ANOVA and means separated at the 5% level using LSD." @default.
