- W2299272512 abstract "Abstract The endogenous opioid system, particularly the μ opioid receptor, plays an important role in the neurobiological mechanism of the addictive properties of nicotine. The activation of the μ opioid receptor by β-endorphins after nicotine exposure is critical to the nicotine rewarding effect. OPRM1 , the gene encoding the μ opioid receptor, has been identified as a plausible candidate gene for nicotine dependence and smoking behaviors. The A118G variant (rs1799971) is the most common single-nucleotide polymorphism in OPRM1 and most studied in multiple animal model and human studies. However, no consistent conclusions have been drawn for the functional characterization of this genetic variant related to smoking behaviors. β-Arrestin 2 and mPKCI-1, known as the μ opioid receptor-interacting proteins, are considered to influence individual susceptibility to drug dependence. The encoding genes ARRB2 and HINT1 have been involved in gene association studies on smoking behaviors." @default.
